Norman Manea's Literary Archive Goes to Berlin's Akademie der Künste

To celebrate his 90th birthday, Romanian author Norman Manea has donated his literary archive to the Akademie der Künste in Berlin. This extensive collection, which encompasses manuscripts, proofs, research documents, and correspondence with a diverse array of writers, artists, and intellectuals, reflects Manea's long career influenced by themes of exile, dictatorship, memory, and personal liberty. Since relocating to New York in 1988, Manea has been associated with the Akademie der Künste as a member since 2006. This announcement comes after his birthday on July 19, 2026, and the archive includes letters from prominent individuals like Gabriela Adameșteanu, Louis Begley, and Imre and Magda Kertész, enhancing the Akademie's literary collections significantly.
