Norman Foster Curates 'Motion. Autos, Art, Architecture' at Guggenheim Bilbao

The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao presents 'Motion. Autos, Art, Architecture', an exhibition curated by Lord Norman Foster, running until September 18, 2022. The show celebrates the museum's 25th anniversary with 38 rare automobiles juxtaposed with paintings, sculptures, and photographs by artists including Ed Ruscha, Andy Warhol, Margaret Bourke-White, Man Ray, Constantin Brâncuși, Umberto Boccioni, Giacomo Balla, and Christo. The exhibition is organized into five thematic sections: Beginnings, Sculpture, Popularization, Sport, and Visionaries, plus a final section on the Future. Highlights include a Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic (one of three surviving examples), a Pegaso Z-102 Cupula, a Ferrari 250 GTO owned by Nick Mason, and a recreation of Buckminster Fuller's Dymaxion car. Co-curator Lekha Hileman Waitoller emphasizes that the rooms must be viewed in order to appreciate the evolution of automotive design. Foster describes the exhibition as 'a sort of requiem for the combustion era' and expresses optimism about the future of design and urban mobility. The final section features visions from 16 universities worldwide, including Politecnico di Milano. Museum director Juan Ignacio Vidarte calls it the most ambitious exhibition ever staged at the Guggenheim Bilbao.
