Nordra: experimental composer blends industrial, noise, and dance

Monika Khot, known as Nordra, is an experimental electroacoustic composer of Indian descent, residing in London. Born in Virginia in 1992, her music fuses electronic rhythms, live guitar, pocket trumpet, and ethereal vocals. Khot's musical journey began with classical guitar, later delving into improvisation with the Seattle-based trio Zen Mother. In 2018, Wire Magazine recognized her score for Pylon II as the top noise and industrial album. The following year, she released Ascent, influenced by Alejandro Jodorowsky's The Holy Mountain. In 2021, Khot participated in a residency at Pioneer Works, and in 2022, she joined Zola Jesus's band. Most recently, in 2023, she received the Best Sound Design award at the Tallgrass Film Festival for This Is Concrete and is currently working on Selected Dance Works.
