Nordic Countries Reveal Artists for 2019 Venice Biennale Pavilion

exhibition · 2026-05-04

The Nordic Pavilion at the 58th Venice Biennale will feature artists nabbteeri (Janne Nabb and Maria Teeri), Ane Graff, and Ingela Ihrman, one from each nation. The exhibition, titled "Weather Report: Forecasting Future," is curated by Leevi Haapala and Piia Oksanen of the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma in Helsinki. It addresses climate change and human-nature relationships. The pavilion, designed by Norwegian architect Sverre Fehn and completed in 1962, is jointly managed by Sweden, Finland, and Norway. Since 2017, it hosts a shared project with equal representation from all three countries. Commissioners rotate: Moderna Museet in 2017, Kiasma in 2019, and OCA – Office for Contemporary Art Oslo in 2021. nabbteeri's work blends humanities and natural sciences through installations, sculpture, performance, and texts. Ane Graff combines art, microbiology, chemistry, and feminist theories in her sculptures and installations. Ingela Ihrman's natural sculptures grow, bloom, and wither like plants, inspired by 1970s environmentalist theories, often incorporating installations and performance elements.
