Norberto Spina's First Italian Solo Show at Cassina Projects, Milan

Italian painter Norberto Spina (Turin, 1995), a recent graduate of the Royal Academy of Art in London, presents his first solo exhibition in Italy at Cassina Projects in Milan. The show features a new body of work that explores memory through painting itself. Spina's earthy tones dominate the white cube, with subjects drawn from family archives and new compositions: children in school uniforms, a violet-barded horse, a saddle, a silver teapot set, and a coffin trolley. A wooden substructure within the gallery evokes a stable, housing the painting 'La promessa'—a boy in white uniform interrupted from reading, gazing at the viewer with a Mona Lisa-like expression. The exhibition emphasizes painting as both subject and object, with layered brushstrokes and impasto creating a wood-like texture. Spina's work questions the distinction between form and content, making painting itself the protagonist. The show runs at Cassina Projects, Milan.
