Norbert Bisky creates permanent installation for Berghain

exhibition · 2026-05-05

German painter Norbert Bisky (Leipzig, 1970) has been commissioned to create a permanent site-specific installation for Berghain, the iconic techno club in Berlin. Titled Vertigo, the work will be installed in the new ground-floor dance floor, where more conceptual and experimental electronic DJs will perform. Bisky, who recently joined König Galerie, replaces Rituals of Disappearance, a large mural by Piotr Nathan that was dismantled and sold in pieces for €500 each on the club's website. Details about Vertigo remain scarce; the club enforces a strict no-photo, no-social-media policy, so the only way to see the work is to queue and gain entry. Berghain, a former power plant, has hosted collaborations with artists like Wolfgang Tillmans and Joseph Marr across its three floors. The club's fusion of music and art echoes historical precedents such as New York's Studio 54, frequented by Andy Warhol, Madonna, and others, and Milan's Plastic, which entertained Warhol, Keith Haring, and Freddy Mercury.
