Nora Turato's 31 luminous texts on LAC Lugano facade
Nora Turato's installation 'That's the only way I can come' at MASI Lugano features 31 quotations scrolling on a 64-module LED screen, visible only from outside the building. The work, curated by Francesca Benini alongside Beni Bischof's exhibition, was adapted for pandemic restrictions. Turato (born 1991 in Zagreb, lives in Amsterdam) annually creates pools of aphorisms from everyday communication—conversations, ads, literature, social media, films, TV—without hierarchy, later used for videos, installations, graffiti, or readings. The LED wall, particularly bright at night, required approval from Cantonal authorities for brightness adjustment due to nearby traffic. Additional texts appeared as posters around Lugano. The title reflects pandemic-induced claustrophobia. Turato's method captures synchronies between marketing strategies and personal relationships, highlighting the volatility of contemporary language disconnected from its informative function.
