NONE collective's immersive cloud opens at Fiumicino Airport

digital · 2026-05-05

NONE collective, following their earlier work Universo Elegante at the 69th Cannes Film Festival, has created The Human Cloud, a large-scale immersive installation opening on December 21, 2016 at the new International Boarding Area E of Rome's Leonardo da Vinci Airport in Fiumicino, commissioned by ADR Aeroporti di Roma. The work comprises 700 square meters of white fabric, environmental video projections, oversized images on 58 square meters of LED walls reflected on mirrored surfaces, and 8 interactive lightboxes using ADR's historical archive. For one day only, visitors will experience the airport's history through an immersive narrative spanning iconic figures of the 'flying salon of la dolce vita' to the construction of the new boarding area, and the thousands of workers forming the airport's microcosm. The installation explores the human-machine relationship, starting from humanity's tendency to create connections and systems, tracing the origins of information, goods exchange, and transport systems to analyze similarities between human and artificial, from bits to infrastructure, individuals to masses, and physical and virtual networks. The experiential storytelling recounts the stories, people, and dynamics behind the development of one of Europe's largest airport terminals. The event is by invitation only at 11 AM.
