NONE collective brings Cinecittà's magic to Cannes with 'Meraviglia!' installation

For the fourth consecutive year, NONE collective was invited to design the installation for the Italian Pavilion at the 71st Cannes Film Festival, held from May 8 to 19, 2018, at the Hotel Barriere Le Majestic. Curated by Istituto Luce Cinecittà, the installation titled 'Meraviglia!' (Wonder!) aims to recreate the magic and wonder of cinema, particularly the legacy of Cinecittà studios. The collective used scaffolding sourced from Cinecittà sets, combined with projections and lights, to create an immersive environment. Objects from the sets of ancient Rome and Pinocchio were also incorporated. Co-founder Mauro Pace explained that the installation tells the story of the astonishment people feel when watching a film or entering a film set. Another co-founder, Saverio Villirillo, curated a video sequence drawing from over fifty Italian films spanning sixty years, mixing genres, directors, and actors to create a new cinematic imaginary. The installation emphasizes the surreal, using light and space in novel ways.
