Nomura Holdings launches US$1 million art prize with additional emerging artist awards
Nomura Holdings, Inc., a financial services company based in Japan, has launched a new award for contemporary visual arts, featuring a substantial cash prize of US$1 million for an artist recognized for their culturally significant work. This award will be the most lucrative of its kind. Furthermore, two up-and-coming artists will each be granted US$100,000. The inaugural prize will take place in 2019, with an independent international jury responsible for selecting the winners. Jury members include notable figures such as Doryun Chong, Kathy Halbreich, Yuko Hasegawa, Max Hollein, Nicholas Serota, and Allan Schwartzman. The emerging artist award winners will be announced at a press conference in Kyoto on May 21, 2019, while the Nomura Art Award will be unveiled at a gala in Shanghai in October 2019.
