award · 2026-04-20

Nominations are now open for the 2021 Margaret Tait Award, Scotland's leading prize for moving-image work, with submissions due by 5pm on Monday, 7 December. This award provides £15,000 to an artist residing in Scotland who has built a notable portfolio over the last 5–10 years and is ready to make a significant impact. Interested parties should email scotland@lux.org.uk, including a 200-word summary of the artist's career, their influence on moving image, and the rationale for their nomination, along with relevant links and contact information. All artists based in Scotland, including collectives, are eligible, except for those who have been shortlisted three times previously or are current students. A selection panel featuring Alberta Whittle (2018 winner), Kim McAleese, Tina Fiske, Thomas Abercromby, Sean Greenhorn, and Kitty Anderson will evaluate the entries. The shortlist will be revealed in January 2021, and the award recipient will be announced during the Glasgow Film Festival, which runs from 24 February to 7 March 2021. Established in 2009 by Glasgow Film and honoring Orcadian filmmaker Margaret Tait (1918–99), this award promotes innovative moving-image artists, with the winning piece showcased at the festival the following year.
