Nomas Foundation Workshop with Sreshta Rit Premnath Fosters Collective Learning
From January 9 to 20, artist Sreshta Rit Premnath led an intensive two-week workshop at Nomas Foundation in Rome, part of the MiBACT school-work alternation project. The workshop engaged students including Jessica, Sara, Giorgia, Leyla, Gabriele, and others in physical and intellectual exercises inspired by pedagogues Paulo Freire, Ivan Illich, Augusto Boal, and Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak. Participants initially viewed the hours as obligatory, but the collective decided to set aside preset programs and expectations, focusing instead on trust and creativity. The group collaborated with the Bangladeshi community in Tor Pignattara, guided by Bachcu, Mou, and Layla, leading to projects in journalism, drawing, writing, comics, performance, video, and photography. The experience culminated in the exhibition "Cadere/Rose" at Nomas Foundation's exhibition space. The workshop emphasized building community, well-being, and self-esteem over quantifiable outcomes.
