Noè Bordignon Exhibition in Veneto Spans 37 Buildings Across 22 Locations
A new exhibition dedicated to Noè Bordignon (born 1841 in Castelfranco Veneto) is spread across two venues and three itineraries, covering at least 37 buildings in 22 locations, with frescoes spanning over 1,500 square meters. Bordignon studied fresco technique at the Accademia di Venezia under Carl Blaas. After leaving Venice, disappointed by repeated rejections from the Biennale, he settled in Castelfranco Veneto, where he bought a house in 1897. Despite never being admitted to the Biennale, he won a gold medal at the 1886 Liverpool Expo. The exhibition includes a rare sacred scene on the facade of his former home, recently restored, depicting the biblical episode of Jephthah's daughter as a tribute to his deceased daughter. A highlight is the church of San Zenone degli Ezzelini, featuring a Michelangelo-inspired Last Judgment fresco with portraits of local citizens among the blessed and damned. Other stops include the sanctuary of Madonna del Monte with nine frescoes, the church of Santa Fosca di Altivole with a luminous Assumption of Mary from 1910, and the Armenian island of San Lazzaro in the Venice lagoon, where Bordignon decorated the church and painted portraits of monks, including a notable portrait of Father Ghevont Alishan. Eleven municipalities in the Treviso and Vicenza provinces contributed to the itineraries, which cover works from the 1870s to the early 1900s.
