Nobuyoshi Araki's Secret Pages Opens at Pinacoteca Carlo Contini

exhibition · 2026-07-30

The exhibition Secret Pages, dedicated to Japanese photographer Nobuyoshi Araki, opened at the Pinacoteca Carlo Contini in Oristano, Italy, as part of the 28th edition of the Dromos Festival, which this year explores the theme of secrets. The show runs until October 17, 2026. Curated by Sonia Borsato, Secret Pages features 122 works from the Collezione Molinas Balata: 101 Polaroids and 21 photographs. The installation is divided into two rooms: the first serves as an immersive introduction with six works, a large table of catalogs, and explanatory panels on Polaroid language and kinbaku (the ancient Japanese art of binding); the second room houses the core of the exhibition, combining Polaroids and large-format photographs to create a dialogue between intimacy and monumentality. The display encourages visitors to move physically, altering their perspective between close-up details and distant views. Borsato emphasizes that the Polaroids are "embodied memory, relics of our lives," and that Araki's work probes the mystery of life rather than offering voyeuristic satisfaction. The exhibition was inaugurated with a large public turnout and in the presence of Oristano's mayor Massimiliano Sanna and culture councilor Simone Pietro Prevete.
