No Place To Grow: Public Markings Highlight Child Homelessness in Australia
No Place To Grow is a public art initiative conceived by Droga5 and creatives Ninon Peres and Geoffrey Poulain. It transforms the intimate domestic ritual of marking children's height on walls into a public intervention in Sydney and Melbourne, Australia. The project features average height markings for children aged four to twelve on urban walls, repurposing a familiar symbol to signal the absence of safe housing. Developed through collaboration between Accenture Song teams and Droga5's international network, it supports We Are Mobilise to draw attention to nearly 30,000 children experiencing housing insecurity in Australia. Each installation includes a QR code linking to a donation platform, converting emotional impact into concrete action. The work demonstrates how shifting a symbol into an unexpected context can radically alter its meaning, with a global team underscoring the power of ideas driven by shared urgency.
