No Master Territories: Feminist Video Art at MAXXI Rome
At the MAXXI museum in Rome, the Fondazione In Between Art Film is hosting a screening series titled 'No Master Territories: Feminist Worldmaking and the Moving Image,' curated by Erika Balsom and Hila Peleg. This title is inspired by a work of filmmaker and scholar Trinh T. Minh-ha, emphasizing the importance of envisioning a world free from violence and oppression of marginalized groups. The series showcases 19 pieces—experimental films, documentaries, and videos—many of which have never been presented in Italy, created by international female artists from the 1970s to the 1990s, focusing on themes of gender inequality and violence. Screenings will occur from November 21 to December 10, 2023, in three weekly sessions. A public discussion featuring Erika Balsom and Ilaria Gianni is scheduled for November 24 at 6 PM in the museum's videogallery.
