Nine Artists Shortlisted for £40,000 Artes Mundi 6 Prize

The shortlist for the 2015 Artes Mundi 6 prize has been revealed, featuring nine artists from eight different nations competing for a £40,000 award. The artists include Carlos Bunga (Portugal), Karen Mirza and Brad Butler (UK), Omer Fast (Israel), Theaster Gates (USA), Sanja Iveković (Croatia), Ragnar Kjartansson (Iceland), Sharon Lockhart (USA), Renata Lucas (Brazil), and Renzo Martens (Netherlands). Curators Adam Budak from Washington and Sabine Schaschl, Director of Museum Haus Konstruktiv in Zurich, selected the artists based on their focus on lived experiences and the human condition. An exhibition showcasing their works will take place at the National Museum of Art in Cardiff, Wales, from 24 October 2014 to February 2015, with the winner announced on 22 January 2015. The shortlist was made public on 12 December 2013.
