Nilufar Grand Hotel: A Fictional Luxury Hotel Redefines Milan Design Week

During Milan Design Week, Nilufar presented Nilufar Grand Hotel, a monumental installation inside the Nilufar Depot that reimagined hospitality as cultural experience. Curated by Nina Yashar, the project transformed the depot into a fictional luxury hotel where each room, salon, and corridor became a design manifesto. The installation featured three Signature Rooms by Allegra Hicks, Filippo Carandini, and david/nicolas, a Meditation Room inspired by Japanese ryokan, and a Penthouse Suite with new works by Bethan Laura Wood and architect Roshaad Shroff. The ground floor included a lobby, lounge, dining room, fumoir, and boutique with Murano glass and sculptural furniture. The first floor housed museum-like galleries dedicated to objects, including lamps made from recycled smartphone materials and pieces from reconfigured vintage cutlery. The courtyard featured perforated aluminum furniture and reinterpreted historical textiles. Yashar, a leading tastemaker in collectible design since 1979, aimed to create a place that feels deeply real despite being fictional, bridging historical masters, emerging voices, and contemporary languages.
