Nilufar Gallery Opens Two Exhibitions at Venice Lido Airport
Nilufar, the Milan-based design gallery founded by Nina Yashar, has launched two new exhibitions at the Giovanni Nicelli Airport on Venice Lido, timed to coincide with the Venice Biennale. The airport, Italy's oldest commercial airport, retains its original 1920s architecture as it was the only Italian airport not bombed during World War II. Now a private airport serving wealthy travelers, it has an ambitious growth plan. The airport's management invited Nilufar to furnish the common areas, resulting in an installation blending historic design pieces by Gio Ponti, Franco Albini, and Martino Gamper with contemporary artworks by Ignazio Moncada and Pietro Consagra. Additionally, Nilufar has set up a more traditional exhibition in a small adjacent building called Spazio Esso, formerly a fuel depot, featuring ceramic works by Sing Ying Cassandra Ho, on view until June 30.
