Nils-Udo Wins BNL Prize at Mia Photo Fair 2020

award · 2026-04-27

The 2020 Mia Photo Fair, initially rescheduled from March to September, was ultimately canceled due to the pandemic. Nevertheless, BNL Gruppo BNP Paribas presented its annual award to German artist Nils-Udo for his piece "Sequoia Piece" (2012), showcasing his installation at VanDusen Botanical Garden. This selection came from a pool of 15 finalists revealed in March through @bnl_cultura. The jury commended Nils-Udo for his emphasis on environmental themes and natural resources. Born in Lauf in 1937, he is a key figure in the Art in Nature movement. The winning piece will be added to BNL's corporate art collection, which also features last year's recipient, Liu Bolin. Anna Boccaccio highlighted the award as a testament to future optimism, while finalist works were displayed virtually on Instagram.
