Nikon Develops Nikkor Z 120-300mm f/2.8 TC VR S with Built-in 1.4x Teleconverter
Nikon announced development of the Nikkor Z 120-300mm f/2.8 TC VR S, a telephoto zoom lens with a built-in 1.4x teleconverter, extending focal length to 420mm. Part of the S-Line series for full-frame FX mirrorless cameras, it replaces the AF-S Nikkor 120-300mm f/2.8E FL ED SR VR (February 2020), Nikon's final F-mount lens, now discontinued. The original F-mount version was praised for outperforming the 300mm f/2.8 prime and was released in September 2019 at $9,500. The new Z-mount lens features custom function buttons, a rotatable collar with tripod foot, zoom and manual focus rings, and a customizable function ring. A drop-in filter mechanism similar to the Nikkor Z 400mm f/2.8 TC VR S is present. No release date, price, or development stage details were provided. Nikon states the lens supports professional sports photography and imaging expression. Additional reporting by Jeremy Gray.
