other · 2026-04-20

Bisi Silva, a prominent Nigerian curator and the mind behind the Centre of Contemporary Art in Lagos, has sadly passed away. In 2015, she took on the role of artistic director for the 10th Bamako Encounters, which is the African Biennale of Photography. Back in 2009, she co-curated the 2nd Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art in Greece and was part of the curatorial team for the 2006 Dakar Biennale in Senegal. Her work on The Progress of Love in 2012 led to its exhibition at both The Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts in St. Louis and the Menil Collection in Houston. Additionally, Silva co-curated the J.D. Okhai Ojeikere exhibition in Helsinki in 2011 and served on the jury for the 2013 Venice Biennale. She was also the sister of actress Joke Silva.
