Nidaa Badwan's 'The Saving Light' at Palazzo Buonaccorsi in Macerata

Palestinian artist Nidaa Badwan (Abu Dhabi, 1987) presents 'The Saving Light,' a site-specific photography exhibition at the Musei Civici di Palazzo Buonaccorsi in Macerata, running from November 28, 2024 to March 30, 2025. Curated by Paola Ballesi, the show features photographs created in dialogue with the historic palace, which Badwan describes as 'a place of the spirit, steeped in personal events, history, magic and symbols.' The images evoke the grandeur of the past while balancing memory and modernity. Badwan won the Sovereign Middle East & North Africa Art Prize in 2016 and the seventh edition of the Premio Pannaggi/Nuova Generazione in 2024, organized by the Associazione Amici di Palazzo Buonaccorsi. She has lived in Macerata for ten years. The exhibition includes works from her series 'Rinascita' (2024), 'Oscure notti dell’anima,' and 'Cento giorni di solitudine' (2016), the latter depicting voluntary exile to protest power abuses. Curator Paola Ballesi notes that Badwan's photography consistently represents the body as a theater.
