Nicole Yip appointed director of Spike Island, Bristol

Nicole Yip has been appointed Director of Spike Island in Bristol, succeeding Robert Leckie, who recently became Director at Gasworks in London. Yip, a Canadian curator and writer, currently serves as Chief Curator of Exhibitions & Live Programmes at Nottingham Contemporary, a role she has held since 2019. Prior to that, she was Director of LUX Scotland and held curatorial positions at LUX in London, Firstsite in Colchester, and the ICA in London. Her writing has appeared in publications including frieze, CURA, and Yale University Press. She is a trustee of Film London and chairs its Artists’ Moving Image Network (FLAMIN). In a statement, Yip expressed admiration for Spike Island's artist-centered ethos and her commitment to building on Leckie's achievements. She will assume her new role in June 2024.
