Nicole Klagsbrun Gallery presents group exhibition linking Giacometti, Matter, Silver, and Monahan

Nicole Klagsbrun Gallery is hosting a group exhibition featuring works by Alberto Giacometti, Herbert Matter, Matthew Monahan, and Jonathan Silver, which concludes this week. The exhibition functions curatorially as an "exquisite corpse," with each inclusion leading to the next. Herbert Matter's photographs, which employ surreal solarization techniques to capture Giacometti's sculptures, are displayed alongside a series of anxious, spindly drawings by the late sculptor Jonathan Silver, who was Matter's friend and mentee. Matter was married to Mercedes Matter, founder of the New York Studio School. The fourth artist in the show is the contemporary sculptor Matthew Monahan, whose sliced and reconfigured caryatid forms provide a curious contrast to Giacometti's obsessively modeled figures. This contrast invites consideration of Giacometti's brief Surrealist phase, exemplified by works like his polished bronze "Woman with her Throat Cut." The exhibition is located at 526 West 26th Street, Room 318, between 10th and 11th avenues in New York. A closing reception is scheduled for March 7 from 5-7 PM, coinciding with NADA's New York Gallery open event. The show presents a dialogue across generations and mediums, connecting historical and contemporary practices through sculpture, drawing, and photography.
