Nicolas Philibert's 'Sur l'Adamant' Wins Golden Bear at Berlin

Nicolas Philibert's documentary 'Sur l'Adamant' won the Golden Bear for Best Film at the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival in February 2023. The film, released in French theaters on April 19, 2023, focuses on the Adamant, a floating day center on the Seine in Paris near Gare de Lyon. Designed by Seine Design architects in collaboration with patients and staff of the Paris Centre psychiatric pole, the center is part of the Esquirol psychiatric hospital network. Philibert's film explores institutional psychotherapy, a movement born during World War II at Saint-Alban hospital in Lozère under Catalan psychiatrist François Tosquelles. The documentary features patients' creative activities including music, painting, sewing, and newspaper production. Philibert previously directed 'La Moindre des choses' (1996) about La Borde clinic.
