Nicolas Party's Mosaic Pool at Le Sirenuse, Positano

exhibition · 2026-04-26

Swiss artist Nicolas Party (born 1980 in Lausanne) has created a vibrant mosaic pool at Le Sirenuse, a five-star hotel in Positano on the Amalfi Coast. The 18.6-meter-long by 4.65-meter-wide pool, inaugurated in late April 2024, features overlapping organic forms in glass tile mosaic, evoking the surrounding landscape of sea, mountains, and clouds. It is Party's first work in polychrome mosaic, produced in collaboration with Italian glass mosaic company Bisazza. The project is part of the hotel's "Artists at Le Sirenuse" initiative, curated by British independent curator Silka Rittson-Thomas together with Antonio and Carla Sersale, the hotel's owners. Since 2015, the program has invited international artists to create site-specific works for the hotel, collaborating with local artisans. Previous participants include Beatrice Pediconi, Caragh Thuring, Martin Creed, Stanley Whitney, Alex Israel, Matt Connors, Rita Ackermann, and Lucy Stein. The program paused in 2020 and resumed in 2024 with Party's pool. Party, known for his pastel paintings, sculptures, murals, and installations, was invited to stay at the hotel to reimagine the pool. The work is described by the hotel as "an exuberant representation of overlapping and interconnected organic forms that rework the view of the sea, mountains, and clouds from the pool terrace, in a joyful, undulating waterscape that transforms and dances underwater." Party himself said, "When you jump into the pool, you jump into the sky."
