Nicolas Party and Jorge Peris Installations at Antinori Art Project

exhibition · 2026-05-05

Swiss artist Nicolas Party (born 1980 in Lausanne) presents six works from 2013–2016 at Palazzo Antinori in Florence from November 23 to January 14, curated by Ilaria Bonacossa. The exhibition, titled "Nicolas Party in the Garden Room," includes three new watercolors and three stone sculptures that engage with late-18th-century frescoes. Party reinterprets the still-life genre with irony, creating a short-circuit between decoration and art. His earlier site-specific work "Giant Fruit" (2015) at the Antinori winery in Bargino, Chianti Classico, was acquired by Marchesi Antinori this year, joining the Antinori Art Project collection. The spray-painted fruit pyramid contrasts with the winery's materials of terracotta, wood, corten steel, and glass. Additionally, curator Bonacossa and Spanish sculptor Jorge Peris unveiled "Portal del Angel" at Bargino, a site-specific commission reinterpreting the triumphal arch using Antinori family amphorae, Carrara marble slabs, and local Alberese stone. The precarious-looking structure frames an entrance to the winery's oil production area, emphasizing the threshold between interior and exterior. Peris, a former assistant of Gilberto Zorio, aims to push material limits through direct collaboration with artisans. The winery, designed by architect Marco Casamonti and Archea Associati, also features works by Yona Friedman, Tomás Saraceno, Rosa Barba, Jean-Baptiste Decavèle, and Giorgio Andreotta Calò.
