Nicolas Deshayes Wins Inaugural Battaglia Foundry Sculpture Prize in Milan

exhibition · 2026-05-05

The first edition of the Battaglia Foundry Sculpture Prize has been awarded to Nicolas Deshayes (b. 1983, Nancy). The exhibition, curated by Camilla Bonzanigo, is on view at Fonderia Artistica Battaglia in Milan until November 25, 2016. It traces Deshayes's creative process during a month-long residency at the foundry from June to July 2016. Plaster and wax casts, made during the residency, are displayed prone and supine on long workshop tables, evoking the mental process behind the winning work. The final sculpture, a twisted bronze tentacle with a verdigris patina, occupies the last room. Drawings by Deshayes and proposals from other selected artists accompany the piece. The prize is organized by Fonderia Artistica Battaglia, located at Via Stilicone 10.
