Nicolas Bourriaud Launches MoCo's Hôtel des Collections in Montpellier with Private Collection Show

Nicolas Bourriaud oversees Montpellier Contemporain (MoCo), which integrates the ESBA art school, La Panacée art center, and the Hôtel des Collections. This venue debuted in June 2019 with the exhibition "Intimate Distance," curated by Yuko Hasegawa from Yasuharu Ishikawa's collection. Featured artists include Liam Gillick, Pierre Huyghe, Ryan Gander, Danh Vō, Rachel Rose, along with Félix Gonzalez-Torres, Marcel Broodthaers, and Lawrence Weiner, showcasing works from the 1990s. MoCo finances exhibitions independently of collector input. Looking ahead, a 2020 exhibition from Moscow's Tretyakov Gallery, curated by Andrei Erofeev, is planned, while La Panacée will host "The Street," curated by Hou Hanru. Bourriaud seeks to intertwine education, exhibitions, and collections, addressing regionalization versus globalization.
