Nicolas Bourriaud inaugurates renovated Palais des beaux-arts at Énsb-a Paris

institutional · 2026-04-24

Nicolas Bourriaud, who previously served as the director of Palais de Tokyo and co-curated the Lyon Biennale, has taken on the role of head at École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts (Énsb-a) in Paris. The newly renovated exhibition space, now known as Palais des beaux-arts, will debut on April 24, 2013, with the exhibition 'L'ange de l'histoire,' drawing inspiration from Walter Benjamin. Bourriaud's vision focuses on prioritizing artists and their works within education, merging both historical and modern practices. The exhibition is divided into four thematic sections, examining concepts like ruin, fragment, and evidence, and includes contributions from Brazilian artist Glauco Rodrigues. He also opposes the incorporation of art schools into the Ministry of Higher Education and intends to display the school's vast collection throughout the year while resuming the acquisition of 21st-century artworks.
