Nicola Samorì's 'Malafonte' Exhibition at EIGEN + ART Berlin
Nicola Samorì (Forlì, 1977) presents 'Malafonte' at EIGEN + ART Berlin, featuring 20 works including frescoes, paintings on copper and steel, a full-round sculpture, three marble high reliefs, and two paintings on onyx. The centerpiece is the monumental fresco 'Malafonte' (515 x 380 cm), inspired by Bronzino's 'Adoration of the Bronze Serpent' in Palazzo Vecchio, Florence. Samorì's fresco, detached and mounted on four movable panels, reinterprets the Mannerist composition with contemporary anxieties, adding figures like a woman reminiscent of Leonardo's St. Anne and another echoing Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring. The artist describes the work as embodying a 'black virus' of fear that corrupts ivory bodies. Other works like 'Stellario' (copper oxidation), 'Macula' (onyx), and 'Il Coltello' explore themes of decay, time, and material imperfection. Samorì critiques art world trends, favoring a timeless, apocalyptic aesthetic. The exhibition runs until November 17, 2018.
