Nicola Magrin's watercolors for Ester Armanino's fable exhibited at Salamon Fine Art

exhibition · 2026-05-04

The fable 'Una balena va in montagna' (A Whale Goes to the Mountains), written by Ester Armanino (Genoa, 1982) and illustrated by Nicola Magrin (Milan, 1978), has been published by Salani Editore in collaboration with the Club Alpino Italiano. The delicate story for adults and children explores curiosity, dreams, travel, friendship, mountains, and the sea. Magrin's watercolor illustrations, characterized by cold tones of blue, azure, gray, and deep green, are on display at Salamon Fine Art in Milan until December 21. The artist describes the narrative as strongly autobiographical, identifying with the protagonist, and drawing inspiration from his trip to Nepal, mountain walks, mood, pictorial improvisation, and literary authors. Magrin previously exhibited at Centro Saint-Bénin in Aosta in 2016 with the solo show 'La traccia del racconto' and has designed covers for Jack London's 'The Call of the Wild' (translated by Gianni Celati, Nuages) and Federico Rampini's 'L’oceano di mezzo', as well as works for Einaudi and Tea. The book is priced at €16.90.
