Nico Vascellari's 'Falena' Donated to MAXXI and Triennale Milano

institutional · 2026-04-27

The golden scythe sculpture 'Falena,' created by Nico Vascellari, has been gifted to MAXXI in Rome and Triennale Milano. Initially unveiled during 'Il Mare a Milano' in the summer of 2022, the artwork consists of over one hundred gold-plated scythes arranged in a radial pattern, creating a sun with a 2.5-meter diameter that operates on solar energy. The title alludes to the moth (falena), embodying the dualities that are pivotal to Vascellari's art. In Rome, the installation is scheduled for April 3, 2023, at 7 PM, with free entry. The ceremony in Milan will take place on April 14, with the sculpture available for public viewing starting April 15, alongside a discussion featuring Vascellari at 7 PM.
