Nick Angelo's Conspiracy Quilts Map LA at Sebastian Gladstone

Nick Angelo's solo exhibition at Sebastian Gladstone in Los Angeles, opening July 11, 2026, presents intricate 'conspiracy quilts' that map the artist's psycho-geographic relationship to the city. Angelo, a former drug addict who has worked in needle exchange and harm reduction, creates works on grommeted vinyl, typically found zip-tied to chain-link fences, produced at 24-hour print centers. His pieces connect disparate elements of LA's urban fabric, cinema history, and personal biography into sprawling visual networks. The exhibition includes references to a former CIA outpost in Laurel Canyon that became Jared Leto's home, the Echo Park Pioneer Chicken (immortalized by Warren Zevon's 'Carmelita') now a Little Caesar's, and the Atwater Village Foster's Freeze where a scene in Pulp Fiction was filmed. Angelo's matrices also link the Wonderland killings, Eddie Nash, The Germs, Scientology, Frank Zappa's cabin, and Antonioni's Zabriskie Point. His work is described as a 'feat' of using popular images to tell his own story, building mazes in which to be temporarily lost, akin to a Situationist dérive.
