Nicholas Moegly Creates Dreamlike Twilight Illustrations Featuring Wandering Animals

Nicholas Moegly produces illustrations depicting quiet American neighborhoods at twilight, where deer and foxes wander through yards and alleyways. His works, which include pieces titled "A Suspended State," "A Summer's End," "A Constant Search," "Whestel," "An Old Friend," "An Inevitable Fate," and "Eastwood," are characterized by a dreamy realism. This aesthetic is comparable to photographer Todd Hido's "Houses at Night" series and the illustrations of children's book author Chris Van Allsburg. Moegly's scenes are intentionally devoid of human presence, focusing instead on the liminal quality of dusk, a time often associated in folklore with magical transitions and emerging spirits. The artist is currently working on his largest oil painting to date, exploring the relationship between scale and realism.
