NHS Darkroom photography project celebrated at University of Sunderland
Colleagues and guests gathered at the University of Sunderland to honor NHS Darkroom, a participatory photography initiative spearheaded by Johannah Churchill, a lecturer, photographer, and ex-NHS nurse, in collaboration with Newcastle Hospitals Charity. Since its inception in 2022, NHS personnel from both clinical and non-clinical backgrounds have engaged annually, mastering darkroom techniques to produce prints that depict their professional experiences. Instead of solely being photographed by Churchill, participants work alongside her to craft and print their own images, influencing the perception of their work lives. This project has evolved into a valuable platform for staff introspection.
