Nextones 2019: Psychedelic Music Festival in Val D'Ossola Marble Quarries

The sixth edition of Nextones, a festival combining psychedelic music, digital visions, and live performances, takes place from July 26 to 28, 2019, within the marble and granite quarries of Val D'Ossola, near Lake Maggiore in Piedmont, Italy. Curated by Threes, an agency focused on cultural sustainability also behind the Terraforma festival at Villa Arconati near Milan, the event features international multimedia shows. Highlights include Italian composer Caterina Barbieri and visual artist Ruben Spini presenting the live A/V piece 'Time-Blind,' inspired by sacred art and religious ecstasy. German duo Amnesia Scanner explores technological oppression in daily life. Yuri Ancarani (Ravenna, 1972) screens 'Il Capo,' a film set in a white quarry of the Apuan Alps, using the gestural language of quarry workers as narrative. Sinjin Hawke and Zora Jones, founders of label Fractal Fantasy, use motion capture to transform their movements into psychedelic avatars. Siberian DJ and producer Nina Kraviz opens the event with house, ambient, and minimal sounds. The festival also offers excursions of varying difficulty, including an archaeological itinerary in Montecrestese, the ancient Gries route connecting Milan and Berna, and the natural spectacle of the Orridi di Uriezzo, deep cavities from the last ice age.
