NextEra and Brookfield to Build $100B AI Data Center on Cold War Uranium Site

NextEra Energy has teamed up with Brookfield to create a $100 billion AI data center campus at the Paducah Site in western Kentucky, which previously served as a uranium enrichment facility during the Cold War. This initiative aims to transform the 3,500-acre area, operational from 1952 to 2013, into a significant hub for artificial intelligence computing. To satisfy the substantial energy needs of these data centers, the campus will utilize renewable energy sources from NextEra, such as solar and wind power. Announced on Wednesday, the construction is set to unfold in phases over the coming years. As one of the largest undeveloped industrial sites in the U.S., the project is anticipated to generate thousands of jobs and provide a considerable economic uplift to the region.
