Newitalianbooks: Digital Platform Promotes Italian Literature Worldwide

digital · 2026-04-27

Newitalianbooks, a bilingual digital platform launched in October 2020 by the Istituto dell'Enciclopedia Italiana Treccani, aims to internationalize Italian publishing, language, and culture. Supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Centro per il Libro e la Lettura, and in collaboration with the Associazione Italiana Editori, the site connects Italian and foreign publishers, literary agents, translators, Italianists, Italians abroad, and literature enthusiasts. It facilitates the dissemination and translation of recent Italian publications, leveraging the network of Italian Cultural Institutes, embassies, and consulates. The platform publishes profiles of new releases, surveys, interviews, and insights on translations of Italian authors worldwide, along with information on major Italian fairs and awards, and access to databases of publishers, agents, and translators. The project responds to a resurgence in reading during the pandemic, which saw Italian book sales surpass pre-Covid levels.
