Newcastle Art Gallery Unveils Mordant Family Gift and Solo Shows by Brian Robinson, Tiyan Baker
The expanded Newcastle Art Gallery has launched three new exhibitions, headlined by The Mordant Family Gift, which showcases 25 artworks donated by philanthropists Simon and Catriona Mordant. This collection features pieces from artists like Ian Abdulla and María Fernanda Cardoso. Following its reopening in February after renovations, the gallery has welcomed over 80,000 visitors. Director Lauretta Morton emphasized that the expansion facilitates larger exhibitions. Additionally, the gallery presents Multiverse, highlighting Brian Robinson's work, and Mouth Mnemonica, Tiyan Baker's inaugural solo exhibition centered on the endangered Bukar language. The Mordant Family Gift is available until 8 November 2026, while Mouth Mnemonica will be on display until 6 September and Multiverse until 30 August.
