Newcastle Art Gallery opens three new exhibitions including Brian Robinson's Multiverse

Newcastle Art Gallery has launched three new exhibitions following its February reopening with 'Iconic Loved Unexpected'. The exhibitions are Tiyan Baker's solo show 'Mouth Mnemonica', 'The Mordant Family Gift', and Brian Robinson's 'Multiverse'. 'Multiverse' is the gallery's first paid exhibition, featuring over a decade of work by Maluyligal and Wuthathi artist Brian Robinson, including linocut prints and sculptures that blend pop culture, Catholic and colonial iconography with Torres Strait design. Newly commissioned 'Abracadabra: Magic, mystery, and the occasional science contraption' (2025-2026) was developed during Robinson's residency at the University of Newcastle. 'The Mordant Family Gift' comprises 25 works gifted by Simon Mordant AO and Catriona Mordant AM, including pieces by Gemma Smith, Tim Silver, Alasdair Macintyre, and Rafael Lozano-Hemmer. Tiyan Baker's 'Mouth Mnemonica' explores the Bukar Bidayǔh language through video, autostereograms, and 3D-printed enamel teeth. 'Multiverse' runs until 30 August, 'Mouth Mnemonica' until 6 September, and 'The Mordant Family Gift' until 8 November 2026.
