New York Spring Auctions Target Records with Richter, Rothko, and Brâncuși

Major auction houses in New York are gearing up for their spring sales, reflecting a cautiously optimistic outlook in the art market. Sotheby's will hold its auctions from May 13 to 16, followed by Christie's from May 18 to 22. Among the notable items is Marian Goodman's collection, featuring Gerhard Richter's 'Kerze' (1982), valued at up to $50 million, and 'Mohn' (1995), estimated at around $15 million. Sotheby's will also showcase Mark Rothko's 'Towering Brown and Blacks in Reds' (1957), with an estimate of up to $100 million. Christie's will include pieces from S. I. Newhouse's estate, such as a Constantin Brâncuși sculpture and a Jackson Pollock painting, each valued near $100 million. Additionally, a Lubin Baugin still life sold for €440,000 on August 16, 2025, and the PIN charity auction on November 15 will feature Peter Halley's 'Dada Ji' (2005), estimated at €140,000. On September 13, Breker auctioned a 1941 Hasselblad HK 7 camera for €32,000.
