New York's Spring Auction Week Kicks Off with Major Sales at Christie's, Sotheby's, and Phillips

The art market week in New York is set to commence on May 12, 2025, featuring a series of fairs and auctions. According to the Art Basel and UBS Global Art Market Report 2025, the United States accounts for 43% of the global art sales by value. Christie's will kick off the events with the Leonard & Louise Riggio collection, comprising 39 lots, and the 20th Century Evening Sale, showcasing pieces from Anne and Sid Bass, including Rothko's No. 4 (estimated at $30 million) and Warhol's Big Electric Chair. On May 13, Sotheby’s Modern Evening Auction will present Giacometti’s Grande tête mince (estimated at $70 million), while Phillips will hold its Modern & Contemporary Art Evening Sale that same day, featuring 40 lots. Christie's 21st Century Evening Sale on May 14 will spotlight works by Mehretu, Brown, Brice, and Basquiat's Baby Boom (estimated at over $20 million).
