New York's Flatiron Building to Become Luxury Residences
The iconic Flatiron Building at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Broadway in Manhattan will be converted into a luxury residential complex with 38 apartments. Designed by architect Daniel Burnham in Beaux-Arts style and completed in 1902, the 87-meter-tall steel-framed building was an early skyscraper. Its distinctive wedge shape, only 2 meters at the tip, has appeared in films and TV shows including Friends, the Spider-Man trilogy (as the Daily Bugle), and Godzilla (1998). After being fully vacated in 2021 due to pandemic-related decline, and following a 2023 New York Supreme Court auction sale, the redevelopment is led by Brodsky Organization and Sorgente Group. The project includes restoring the limestone and terracotta facade while converting office spaces into residences. The first 18 apartments are on sale, with prices starting at nearly $11 million for about 280 square meters and reaching $50 million for a two-level penthouse over 680 square meters. The total value of the 38 units is $375 million.
