New York's 2025 Art Season: Frick Reopens, Major Museum Shows

exhibition · 2026-04-26

The Frick Collection reopens in April after a $330 million renovation, marking the most anticipated event of New York's 2025 art season. The museum will present "Vermeer’s Love Letters" (June 18–September 8), featuring three paintings including loans from the Rijksmuseum and National Gallery of Ireland. At the Met, "Caspar David Friedrich: The Soul of Nature" (February 8–May 11) brings together over 75 works from European and North American lenders, co-organized with Berlin's Alte Nationalgalerie, Dresden's Staatliche Kunstsammlungen, and the Kunsthalle Hamburg. MoMA's "Pirouette: Turning Points in Design" (January 26–October 18), curated by Paola Antonelli, presents everyday objects like Post-It notes and Spanx from the museum's collection. The Guggenheim hosts "Beatriz Milhazes: Rigor and Beauty" (March 7–September 7), the Brazilian artist's first major New York museum show, featuring her monotransfer technique. The Whitney's "Shifting Landscapes" (through January 2026) redefines landscape art through political, ecological, and social lenses. The Brooklyn Museum's "Solid Gold" (through July 6, 2025) displays 500 gold objects from its collection, curated by Matthew Yokobosky. Additionally, sushi master Keiji Nakazawa has opened Sushi Sho in Manhattan, continuing New York's transformation into a global sushi capital.
