exhibition · 2026-04-27

On December 18, 2020, the Museum of the City of New York unveiled the second chapter of 'New York Responds: The First Six Months.' This exhibition showcases a range of photographs, objects, videos, and artworks that illustrate the effects of COVID-19 and the Black Lives Matter movement in 2020. Featured items consist of handmade masks, markers for social distancing, a pot used for applause during the lockdown, and visuals of food donations and BLM protests. Notable photographers include Nicole Freezer Rubens, Sébastien Vergne, and others. Additionally, the exhibition presents three original artworks on plywood from boarded-up storefronts in SoHo. Curatorial coordinator Sarah Henry emphasized the museum's unique chance to capture history in real-time. The exhibition is open until April 11, 2021.
