exhibition · 2026-04-20

During the pandemic, six galleries from New York acquired the Ockawamick School in Claverack for $1.2 million, and this summer, they reopened it as The Campus. The first exhibition showcased works by artists such as Miguel Calderón and Lara Schnitger, utilizing the former classrooms for display. Included in the exhibition was Lee Mullican's 1948 oil painting, Kachinas. Other featured artists comprised Bendt Eyckermans, Haegue Yang, Michael E. Smith, Spencer Finch, and Renée Green. This event coincided with Upstate Art Weekend, emphasizing the school's transformation alongside various New York art venues. The school, which shut down in 1999, is situated in a community with a population of under 6,000. The participating galleries are Anton Kern, James Cohan, Andrew Kreps, Bortolami, Kaufmann Repetto, and Kurimanzutto.
