New York exhibitions mark US 250th anniversary with diverse perspectives
In celebration of the US semiquincentennial, various museums in New York are hosting notable exhibitions. The New York Historical Society's 'Old Masters, New Amsterdam' will run until August 30, featuring 17th-century Dutch art that emphasizes the contributions of early Dutch settlers. Co-curator Russell Shorto highlights the significance of Dutch portraiture in shaping American individualism. Meanwhile, the Hispanic Society Museum & Library presents 'Goya and the Age of Revolution' until June 28, which explores revolutions influenced by the American Revolution, including Goya's 'The Disasters of War.' The Metropolitan Museum of Art's 'Revolution!' showcases revolutionary portraits until August 2, and the Museum of the City of New York offers 'The Occupied City' with VR experiences until April 2027. Additionally, a rare copy of the Declaration of Independence will be displayed at the New York Public Library from July 1-7.
