New York Art Week 2020: Museum and Gallery Highlights

During New York's art week coinciding with the Armory Show, numerous museums and galleries opened major exhibitions. At the Met Breuer, a large Gerhard Richter retrospective features over 100 works including the Cage and Birkenau series, both shown in the US for the first time. The Museum of Modern Art presents a comprehensive Donald Judd retrospective with 70 works spanning his career. The New Museum continues shows for Jordan Casteel (40 paintings) and Peter Saul (60 works). The Guggenheim hosts Rem Koolhaas's 'Countryside, The Future' exploring rural transformations. The Whitney Museum's 'Vida Americana' examines Mexican muralists' influence on American art with 200 works. The Brooklyn Museum juxtaposes Kehinde Wiley's Napoleon painting with Jacques-Louis David's original. Gallery highlights include Lari Pittman at Lehmann Maupin, Richard Long at Lisson, Serge Alain Nitegeka at Marianne Boesky, and Kara Walker at Sikkema Jenkins & Co. The Ford Foundation presents 'Per(Sister): Incarcerated Women' about female incarceration in Louisiana. Italian institutions feature Bruno Gambone ceramics at the Consulate and Vico Magistretti design at the Italian Cultural Institute.
